Who we cover

Whatever you drive, we can help cover it.

One car on weekend shifts through to a fleet of vans on daily runs, whether you are a sole trader, a subcontractor or a company.

What can be included

One policy, built section by section.

A courier policy is a set of sections, and the ones you need depend on what you drive and the work you do. An owner-driver leads with the vehicle, the load and their own income; an operator with staff adds fleet and employer cover. We build the programme around your work, then compare it across a panel of insurers.

Commercial Motor & Light Truck

The vehicle itself, rated for carrying goods for hire or reward, from a courier van or ute through to a light rigid truck. Private motor policies exclude paid delivery work outright.

Carriers Liability

What you are legally liable for when a customer's freight is lost or damaged in your care. This is the cover most courier contracts actually require you to hold.

Get a quote

Public Liability

Third parties injured or property damaged while you work, from a dropped consignment to an incident on a loading dock, plus the legal costs of defending the claim.

Get a quote

Downtime Cover

An income benefit while your truck is off the road after an insured event. With one vehicle and no backup, a three-week repair is otherwise three weeks with no earnings.

Get a quote

Trailer in Control

Trailers you do not own but are towing or holding. Your motor policy covers your vehicle; a hooked-up trailer belonging to someone else is a separate and commonly missed exposure.

Get a quote

Goods in Transit

The freight itself, insured regardless of who was at fault. Where carriers liability answers what you owe, this answers what the load was worth.

Personal Accident & Income

A weekly benefit while injury or illness keeps you off the road. As a sole trader you generally cannot hold workers compensation on yourself, which is exactly why this exists.

Fleet & Employer Cover

Multiple vehicles on one renewal date, plus the workers compensation and employment obligations that begin the moment you put someone else behind the wheel.

How it works

Three steps. One enquiry.

You answer a few questions; we do the comparing, the paperwork and the chasing. That's the whole point.

01

Tell us what you drive

The vehicle, the work you do and the cover you need. About 60 seconds, no paperwork.

02

We compare

Our licensed team checks the vehicle is rated for the work, sets your liability limits, then compares a panel of insurers.

03

You're covered

We confirm the details and arrange the cover, with your certificate of currency issued during business hours.

What insurance does a courier driver need in Australia?
Usually four things: a motor policy rated for carrying goods for hire or reward, public liability for third-party injury and damage, carriers liability for the freight you are responsible for, and something that replaces your income if you cannot drive. Which of those are mandatory depends on your contracts; most head contractors specify liability limits before they will engage you.
Does my normal car insurance cover courier or delivery work?
Almost certainly not. Private comprehensive policies in Australia exclude carrying goods or passengers for hire, reward or payment. That exclusion applies the moment you are paid to deliver, however careful a driver you are. Continuing on a private policy usually surfaces at the worst possible time, when you claim.
Do I need a different policy for a light truck than for a van?
Often yes. Once you move past light-commercial weight you are into a different market with different insurers, higher liability limits and more scrutiny of licensing, maintenance records and fatigue management. A ute and a light rigid doing the same run are not priced or underwritten alike, so tell us the vehicle rather than the job.
What is carriers insurance, and is it the same as goods in transit?
They are related but not the same. Carriers liability covers what you are legally liable for when a customer's freight is lost or damaged in your care. Goods in transit insures the goods themselves regardless of who was at fault. Which you need depends on what your contract makes you responsible for, and assuming one covers the other is a common and expensive mistake.
Does my motor policy cover a trailer I do not own?
Generally not while it is in your control. Your policy covers your vehicle; a hooked-up trailer belonging to a customer or a depot is a separate exposure, usually handled by a trailer in control extension. It is one of the more common gaps we find on operators who tow.
What happens if I claim without telling my insurer I do deliveries?
The insurer can decline the claim, and in some cases avoid the policy from inception for non-disclosure. You could also be left personally liable for a third party's damage. It is a very large downside to carry in exchange for a modest saving on premium, which is why we always get the use description right up front.
What cover do I need if I am an owner-driver with no employees?
As a sole trader you generally cannot take out workers compensation on yourself, so personal accident and sickness or income protection is what covers you when you cannot work. Alongside that, a properly rated vehicle policy, public liability and carriers liability. The moment you put someone else behind the wheel, employer obligations begin and the picture changes.
Is the delivery app's insurance enough if I drive for a platform?
It helps, but it is narrower than most drivers assume. Platform cover typically applies only while you are logged in and on an active delivery, leans toward third-party liability, and generally will not repair your own vehicle or replace your income. Treat it as a supplement to your own policy, not a substitute for it.
How much does courier insurance cost?
There is no single price. It depends on the vehicle, what you carry, how many hours and kilometres you do, where you are based, your claims history and which sections you take. We compare options across a panel of insurers and come back with terms for your situation rather than quoting a single insurer.
Are you an insurer?
No. Courier Cover is a trading name of Stonewell Insurance Pty Ltd, a licensed insurance broker. We act for you, not for an insurer: we work out what you need, approach the market on your behalf, explain the differences and help you at claim time.
